Brittle Branches (2018) Second Story Dance Project - a duet exploring depression, support, trust and mourning, through images of entwining trees. Music by Antonin Dvořák.

Verdant Fire, pt. 2 (2018), Albany Berkshire Ballet - a playful and longing duet exploring power and surrender.  Music by W. A. Mozart.

Embers and Ash, parts 1, 2, & 3 (2018) Second Story Dance Project - A virtuosic performance piece evoking the mythic phoenix, and the stuggles of change, death, and hope. Set to Ralph Vaughn Williams' The Lark Ascending.

Verdant Fire, mvmt. 4 - the finale(2015) Pace University - fast and precise, this dance for 10 celebrates bold movement and emotional triumph. Music by W. A. Mozart

Hollow Bones (2014) The Purchase Dance Company - an exhuberant, lush, abstract work for 20 dancers performed to  Hayden's String Quartet #4 in B flat.  The piece was inspired by images of skeletal birds.

 

The Grisly Kids (2014) Pace University/Rivertown Artists' Workshop/Riedel Dance Theater -a new collection of macabre tales drawing from RDT's repertory and works created by Jonathan's brightest choreography students at Pace University. These grisly kids like to play...no matter the consequenses.

In Violent Circles: The Rite of Spring (2011, 2013) Riedel Dance Theater - in this take on The Rite of Spring, Riedel tells the story of a family ripped apart by a violent crime and the desperate acts they take to find justice. Set to Igor Stravinsky's infamous score.

Three Teenie Concerti: A Genesis Story (2010) Purchase MFA  - a vivacious and comedic take on the Old Testament's creation story and Milton's Paradise Lost. The work weaves dance, storytelling, and three concerti by Vivaldi into a kinetic fury.

Verdant Fire, mvmt. 3 (2010) Riedel Dance Theater - the next installment of Verdant Fire. This time, a quartet - rhythmic, formal, and kenetic - as the group runs one solo figure through a gauntlet of movement tasks and rituals.  Music by Mozart.

A Ghost Story (2010) Purchase MFA - a dance theater piece inspired by classic and new ghost stories.  Murder, dreams, motherhood, and innocence weave through a chilling environment and a haunting conclusion. Set to music by Morten Feldman.

Lemon Grove (2010) - this solo, made for RDT's Associate Director, Lisa McBride, is a frothy blend of ballet, folk, and modern dance.  The piece explores the bittersweet delight of young romance and treasured memories.

Verdant Fire, mvmt. 1 (2009) Purchase MFA - In response to Mozart's "Dissonance" String Quartet, this dance for seven touches upon themes of cocooning, rebirth, and new found sensuality.

Ukrainian Eggs: Terrible Tales of Tragedy and AlleGorey (2009) Riedel Dance Theater - The complete collection of Riedel dances inspired by the delightfully macabre illustrations and books of Edward Gorey - with new stories, segues, and outrageous moments woven in.  The program is an hour long and recommended for all ages.  Music by Grieg, Mozart, Satie, and Saint-Saens.

Queen of the Hive (2009) Agnes Scott College - A dark complement to "Of Apes and Angels."  Acts of deceit and betrayal unfold as six women dart, fling, and bound about the stage.  Music by Vivaldi.

The Divine Comedy (2008) Riedel Dance Theater - The complete trilogy; Inferno, Purgatory, and Paradise.  Inspired by Dante Alighieri's masterpiece, this work marks Riedel Dance Theater's first full evening work.  Music by Chopin, Prokofiev, and Dvorak.

The Four Loves (2007)  Riedel Dance Theater - a dance for five inspired by C. S.

Lewis' book and set to Dvořák's "American" String Quartet.

Out of the Silent Planet (2007)  The Yard - a dance for four couples (1 male, 3 female,) set to Debussy's String Quartet and inspired by images and themes from C. S. Lewis' Space Trilogy.

Hallowed Bomb (2007)  Riedel Dance Theater - a solo responding to contemporary terrorism and our national glut of media, set to Igor Stravinsky's 'Concertino.'

"Eros" and "Friendship" (2006) Riedel Dance Theater - two duets from The Four Loves.

Purgatorio (work-in-progress, 2005) Riedel Dance Theater - part two of a trilogy based on Dante Alighieri's La Divina Commedia

The Ubiquitous Elephant (2005) Limón Dance Company - part of RDT's Edward Gorey cannon.  Inspired by The Doubtful Guest.

The Umbra Bug (2005) Good Moves Dance Consort - also part of RDT's Edward Gorey cannon.  Set to Satie's Nocturnes IV & V  and inspired by The Bug Book.

Ian's Big Day (2005) Purchase Dance Corps - a comedic, action packed, coming of age story depicting a young boy's harrowing first day at a new school.  As we move between the child's reality and his imagination, the scenes shift from a John Hughes style to that of the James Bond films.  

 

Inferno (2004) Riedel Dance Theater - part one of a trilogy based on Dante Alighieri's La Divina Commedia.  This work is a suite of solos and duets set to Nocturnes by Frederic Chopin.  They include "The Angel" and "Circle of the Root" which were performed by the Limón Dance Company in 2005, and also "Circle of the Crown" and "Circle of the Navel" created later in 2006.

Uspud: Un Ballet Chretién (2003) Riedel Dance Theater - the first professional staging of Erik Satie's controversial ballet.  It is a pantomime for two dancers, with narration and piano accompaniment.

The Upcher's Warbler (2003) Riedel Dance Theater - another instalment of the Edward Gorey cannon.  Three short stories set to Satie's Nocturnes I-III and inspired by The Pious Infant, Story for Sara, and The Deranged Cousins.

Hourglass (2003) Riedel Dance Theater - a sorrowful and stoic duet set to two Schubert lieder.

Of Apes and Angels (2003) Good Moves Dance Consort - an abstract work for six dancers set to Vivaldi's concerto for two horns.

The Unsightful Nanny (2002) Limón Dance Company - the first of the Gorey Cannon.  Music by Camille Saint-Seans.  Inspired by The Gashlycrumb Tinies.

Sculpture Garden (2000) Limón Dancers' Choreography Project - a pastoral trio set to four Schubert lieder.

Under My Skin (1999) Limón Dancer's Choreography Project - a sarcastic and colorful look at romance; music by Louis Prima.

Cracked Earth (1999)  Good Moves Dance Consort - two contrasting quartets set to music by Henryk Gorecki and Arvo Part.

Nella Voce dello Castrato (1996) Independant Solo - a dance exploring androgyny and the pain of beauty, inspired by the film Farinelli.
